Hi, I’m Jacob Stoops and I’m a professional Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategist and Social Media enthusiast residing in the bustling metropolis of Columbus, Ohio.
“We can all do SEO. I love helping people realize their website’s fate isn’t solely up to the search engines. It’s about working your tail off and making yourself more relevant.”
I’m an SEO Manager at Rosetta – one of the nation’s premier Internet Marketing companies. I’m also the former Internet Marketing Director at Germain of Columbus, and former Director of Search Engine Optimization for People To My Site.
I have been a professional SEO strategist and consultant since 2006. I utilize my blog as a forum to teach others how to utilize fundamental to advanced SEO (and other marketing techniques) to increase the traffic and brand exposure to their website.
Over the past several years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the world’s best-known brands including Scotts Miracle-Gro, Lexus, and Allied/Nationwide Insurance just to name a few.
How did I get into the Search Engine Optimization and Internet Marketing industry?
I get this question quite a bit, and the short answer is by total accident. My journey into the world of search and marketing began in late 2005 when I was working as a Web Designer and WordPress specialist at a now-defunct marketing company in Dublin, Ohio called Your Marketing Corner.
As I spent a lot of time building out client’s websites, I kept running into this little problem. I was building what I thought were good sites (at least visually), but after launch I could never seem to find them in any search engines. It was this problem that set in motion my desire to learn as much I possibly could about search engines and how the websites I was building fit into the picture.
Since then, I’ve spent many long hours learning from expert blogs, professional experience, and working on the ins-and-outs of the Search Engine Optimization industry.
What are my goals and why run a Search Engine Optimization blog?
My main goal is to become a maven of SEO (among other things). The word “maven” refers to a person who is a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others while expecting nothing in return. This is what I strive to be on an everyday basis.
Since it was professional SEO blogs much like my own that helped me get into this industry, I feel that it is my personal responsibility to pay it forward by helping to facilitate that knowledge and opportunity for other people.
If there is somebody out there who is in the same position that I was, then my end goal would be to help them in some way to develop their own expertise and maybe land a job in the industry (or whatever they chose to do).
On Giving Up the “Secret Sauce”…
People ask me all the time, “Why give away the secrets? Why lose the competitive advantage?” Truth is, there are no secrets with SEO – and certainly no tasty sauce! With the exception of search engine algorithms, anything anybody wants to learn about SEO theory is widely available online – which makes it ridiculous to try to hide what I’m doing. In fact, it is this “hidden agenda” that has often cast a shadow over this industry – as SEO’s are often misrepresented as scam artists or worse.
Instead, it is my goal to teach my clients as much as possible so that they understand not just how, but why their website performs the way it does. It is in this way that I believe I can help my clients while developing my own reputation and credibility as a trusted resource on the subject.
It is my firm belief that anyone can learn SEO much as I did. The reason anyone would EVER hire me is that they don’t want to take the time to get up to speed, or they’re simply too busy running their business to have to deal with it.
